The engine’s real proposal for a sample job, with the scorer’s real numbers for every combination of accepted changes.

The order it works in

Cheapest change first. The riskiest, only if you ask.

Tailoring runs in four steps, sorted by how much each can cost you. By the time a model is asked to write anything, the resume may already fit.

  1. 1

    Reorder your skills

The terms the posting cares about move to the front of the list they are already in. A reorder cannot change a single claim, so it goes first.

    Changes no claim

  2. 2

    Add bullets you already wrote

Achievements from your profile that show what the job asks for are added under the role they belong to — up to 2 per role, 5 in all. Nothing is reworded, and nothing you chose to include is removed.

    Restates your own words

  3. 3

    Rewrite the summary

If the summary does not reflect the job, a model is asked to rewrite it — given only the facts it may use. Every claim in what comes back is checked against them.

    New prose, checked

  4. 4

    Individual rewrites

Anything still missing is left for you to ask about, line by line. Each answer arrives as a change you can read and reject.

    Only when you ask

Three rules

What makes tailoring safe to trust.

Nothing is invented

Every change is a reorder of what your resume says, or a line from your profile carried over with a link to the fact it came from.

Gaps become questions

A required term that nothing in your history supports is never added. It is listed as missing, so you can answer it — or accept it.

It stops when the job is covered

Not when the score stops rising. Tailoring that rewrites a resume nobody asked it to rewrite is worse than leaving points on the table.

You review a list, not a new resume. A proposal reads as “6 changes” — each with a sentence saying what it does and why — so you never have to diff two pages by eye to find out what an AI did to your work.

Questions

About tailoring.

What does it mean to tailor a resume to a job description?

Making the resume you already have speak to one specific posting: the skills it asks for near the top, achievements that show those skills where a reader will see them, and a summary that names the role. It does not mean rewriting your history to fit — a tailored resume is still a true one.

How is this different from asking ChatGPT to rewrite my resume?

A general chatbot rewrites everything at once and has no record of what you actually did, so it fills gaps with plausible numbers. Here, the changes are small, listed one by one, and drawn from a profile of facts you confirmed. Prose a model writes is checked against those facts, and anything that does not trace back is flagged for you.

What happens when the job asks for something I have not done?

It is not added. The term is reported as missing, so you can decide what to do: add a true experience you forgot to your profile, or accept that this requirement is a gap. Tailoring never writes a skill onto your resume that nothing in your history supports.

Does building a tailored resume cost an AI action?

Reading the job posting does (one action). Building the resume from your profile does not — no model chooses its lines. A summary rewrite is one more action; if you are out of actions you still get the resume, just without the new summary.

Can I undo a change after I accept it?

Yes. Every accepted change undoes in one step, and the resume you tailored from is kept as it was.
