What it checks

8 checks on how your resume reads.

Will a person keep reading? Strong verbs, real numbers, lines that fit, no filler. The points are each check’s share of the writing score.

  • 20 ptsAction verbsBullets open with what you did, not "responsible for" or "tasked with".
  • 22 ptsNumbersAt least 60% of bullets carry a number — how much, how many, how fast.
  • 12 ptsBullet lengthEach bullet is 40–260 characters: one or two lines, never a paragraph.
  • 10 ptsTensePresent tense for the job you have, past for the ones you had — and one tense within a role.
  • 12 ptsFillerNone of the 61 phrases recruiters skim past: "team player", "results driven", "thinking outside the box".
  • 8 ptsFirst personNo "I", "me" or "we". The page is already about you, and "we" hides whose work it was.
  • 8 ptsLengthPage count fits your experience: one page under about 8 years, two under 15, three beyond.
  • 8 ptsSummaryA summary exists and runs 150–700 characters: long enough to say something, short enough to be read.

Questions

About the resume checker.

Is this resume checker really free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit. It runs in your browser, so checking a resume costs us nothing — there is no reason to charge for it.

Do you store or see my resume?

No. The text never leaves your device: it is read and scored by code running in this page. Close the tab and it is gone.

Why is there no parseability score?

Parseability is a property of a PDF — whether its text comes out in order, whether headings and contact details survive. From pasted text there is nothing to test, so the checker leaves it out of the score rather than pretend. If you upload a PDF that turns out to be an image, it tells you so. In the app, every export is read back and scored for parseability.

How accurate is the score?

It is deterministic and explainable: the same resume always gets the same number, and every point lost is attached to a line and a reason. It is an estimate of how well a resume will be read, not a prediction of what any particular ATS vendor does — no one outside those companies can honestly claim that.

What is a good score?

85 or above is strong. 70 to 84 is good with fixes worth making. Below 70, the issues list is where to spend your next half hour. Against a specific job, use the job match checker — a resume can be well written and still miss what the posting asks for.
